I took the Big Y 700 DNA test a number of years back and discovered a very very close connection to a man in the USA. He has a different surname. A NPE I believe is the term. The site suggested a common ancestor around 1745.
We exchanged family history information and both our families lived in the same part of Scotland at that time. We could find no obvious connections.
Is trying to discover what happened now simply a lost cause?
